sandy hook parent saying that a step in the right direction might be arming those in schools. so for those parents that may say to you, yes. i feel more comfortable with an armed guard in their child's building, what do you say to them? what do you say to what they want done right now, the safety of their children? >> what i would say is we need to be both quick and right. the vice president of the united states, the person who has led on this issue in the past is working very hard with a group right now. this isn't some long-term study committee. the president will have a bill in january, and i think that we need to make sure that the bill we bring forward will make real change and that it's right. so we shouldn't rush to put forth a bad bill. i don't believe adding more guns to the environment is a solution. i do believe that cities need to have additional, red-made plans that are sensitive to responding to schools rapidly. >> what did you do in atlanta once this happened? >> that's the charge that i made to my police chief and we're developing plans in the city of atlanta to r

and the unimaginable damage from superstorm sandy and more. >>> we'll start with another winter storm getting ready to wallop a large swath of the country. maria larosa has the details. >> it places like arkansas just a few days ago under blizzard warnings. now we're talking about freezing rain advisories. also, the winter weather advisories. you see the advisories stretch back into the ohio valley, back into the northeast. that's basically the trail of the snow with this next system. so over the next 24 to 48 hours we'll see it develop. it will continue through the south with thunderstorms and showers. not to the extent of the severe weather with the last round, but you can see enough cold air you start to see the snow develop from ohio to pennsylvania. moving into d.c. overnight tonight, into philadelphia and new york by saturday morning and on up into boston by saturday afternoon. it's a quick mover. generally speaking, the snow totals will be on the light side. we'll start in the next 24 hours. ohio valley, indianapolis, you could end up with an additional 3 to 6 inches of snowfall. as it moves

east coast areas hit hardest by hurricane sandy. in sea side park, new jersey, barn aget bay is threatening homes two months after sandy devastated the area. in brooklyn, near coney island, bulldozers stacked sand on to the dunes, renewing efforts to protect high tide. and in rock away park, queens, the storm brought high surf, an ongoing threat given tomorrow's high moon. >>> crews are working to restore electricity to more than 200,000 customers affected by the christmas-day storms. new surveillance video from a drugstore in mobile, alabama shows how destructive the tornadoes were. inside the store, shoppers are caught off guard as fierce winds shook the building and ripped products from the shelves. in all, twisters cut across four states. the storm system that created those tornadoes is now up here in maine. it dumped more than a foot of snow and more is on the way. for all the weary holiday travelers that are tuning in tonight, there is better news tomorrow with calmer weather and hopefully all those thousands of flights they'll be able to catch up. however, a brief brea

and weeks after that tragedy at sandy hook, elementary school. >> many thanks, appreciate it. >>> here now to talk to us dan greenhaus, you are, if i understand it, a fiscal cliff stock bear. >> yes. give or take, yes. >> and why? >> well, i think it's pretty clear you're talking about -- well, our best case scenario has been we're going off the cliff. we said that the day after the election, we standby it today. if you do that, you're talking about the largest tax increase in our country's history, a considerable amount of spending cuts, and in the short-term, probably hit the stock prices on the order of 10%. >> if i give you a cliff deal. okay. i'm going to give you a cliff deal for middle class extensions, 250,000, you're right the top rates will go up. but if you get that deal in january, that does save us from the recession scenario, the really deep gloom scenario. >> this is the big debate. our view has been if you get a deal fairly quickly in the new year, it's hardly the end of the world. the question really or the debate really accelerates if you start getting closer to january 1

.s. approving a $64 billion budget to pay for super storm sandy recovery, after lawmakers defeated republican efforts to trim the bill's cost. sandy battered the east coast in late october, killing 121 people. it was the most costly natural hurricane disaster since 2005. three philadelphia officers shot by a suspect held at the police station. eddie jones had been arrested for allegedly stocking -- stalking his ex-girlfriend. in the booking process, he overpowered a female officer, got her gun and shot her and fired at two officers who returned fire, killing the suspect. one officer was shot multiple times but was saved by his bullet-proof vest. all three are expected to survive. now back to "the five."
